The Lord says: "These people1 come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips,2 but their hearts are far from me.3 Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.a414
Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder;5 the wisdom of the wise6 will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.7"
Woe to those who go to great depths to hide8 their plans from the LORD, who do their work in darkness and think, "Who sees us?9 Who will know?"1016
You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!11 Shall what is formed say to him who formed12 it, "He did not make me"? Can the pot say of the potter,13 "He knows nothing"?1417
In a very short time,15 will not Lebanon16 be turned into a fertile field17 and the fertile field seem like a forest?1818
In that day19 the deaf20 will hear the words of the scroll, and out of gloom and darkness21 the eyes of the blind will see.2219
Once more the humble23 will rejoice in the LORD; the needy24 will rejoice in the Holy One25 of Israel.
The ruthless26 will vanish,27 the mockers28 will disappear, and all who have an eye for evil29 will be cut down--
those who with a word make a man out to be guilty, who ensnare the defender in court30 and with false testimony31 deprive the innocent of justice.3222
Therefore this is what the LORD, who redeemed33 Abraham,34 says to the house of Jacob: "No longer will Jacob be ashamed;35 no longer will their faces grow pale.3623
When they see among them their children,37 the work of my hands,38 they will keep my name holy;39 they will acknowledge the holiness of the Holy One40 of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel.
