They say to the seers,1 "See no more visions2!" and to the prophets, "Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things,3 prophesy illusions.411
Leave this way,5 get off this path, and stop confronting6 us with the Holy One7 of Israel!"
Therefore, this is what the Holy One8 of Israel says: "Because you have rejected this message,9 relied on oppression10 and depended on deceit,
this sin will become for you like a high wall,11 cracked and bulging, that collapses12 suddenly,13 in an instant.
It will break in pieces like pottery,14 shattered so mercilessly that among its pieces not a fragment will be found for taking coals from a hearth or scooping water out of a cistern."
This is what the Sovereign15 LORD, the Holy One16 of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest17 is your salvation, in quietness and trust18 is your strength, but you would have none of it.1916
You said, 'No, we will flee20 on horses.'21 Therefore you will flee! You said, 'We will ride off on swift horses.' Therefore your pursuers will be swift!
A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five22 you will all flee23 away, till you are left24 like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner25 on a hill."
Yet the LORD longs26 to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion.27 For the LORD is a God of justice.28 Blessed are all who wait for him!2919
O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.30 How gracious he will be when you cry for help!31 As soon as he hears, he will answer32 you.
Although the Lord gives you the bread33 of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers34 will be hidden35 no more; with your own eyes you will see them.
