The desert1 and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.2 Like the crocus,32
it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.4 The glory of Lebanon5 will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel6 and Sharon;7 they will see the glory8 of the LORD, the splendor of our God.93
Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees10 that give way;
say11 to those with fearful hearts,12 "Be strong, do not fear;13 your God will come,14 he will come with vengeance;15 with divine retribution he will come to save16 you."
Then will the eyes of the blind be opened17 and the ears of the deaf18 unstopped.
Then will the lame19 leap like a deer,20 and the mute tongue21 shout for joy.22 Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams23 in the desert.
The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground24 bubbling springs.25 In the haunts where jackals26 once lay, grass and reeds27 and papyrus will grow.
