Isaiah 41:23-29 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
23 tell us what the future holds, so we may know1 that you are gods. Do something, whether good or bad,2 so that we will be dismayed3 and filled with fear. 24 But you are less than nothing4 and your works are utterly worthless;5 he who chooses you is detestable.6 25 "I have stirred7 up one from the north,8 and he comes-- one from the rising sun who calls on my name. He treads9 on rulers as if they were mortar, as if he were a potter treading the clay. 26 Who told of this from the beginning,10 so we could know, or beforehand, so we could say, 'He was right'? No one told of this, no one foretold11 it, no one heard any words12 from you. 27 I was the first to tell13 Zion, 'Look, here they are!' I gave to Jerusalem a messenger of good tidings.14 28 I look but there is no one15-- no one among them to give counsel,16 no one to give answer17 when I ask them. 29 See, they are all false! Their deeds amount to nothing;18 their images19 are but wind20 and confusion.
