Isaiah 53:5-12 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
5 But he was pierced1 for our transgressions,2 he was crushed3 for our iniquities; the punishment4 that brought us peace5 was upon him, and by his wounds6 we are healed.7 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,8 each of us has turned to his own way;9 and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity10 of us all. 7 He was oppressed11 and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth;12 he was led like a lamb13 to the slaughter,14 and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppressiona and judgment15 he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living;16 for the transgression17 of my people he was stricken.b 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,18 and with the rich19 in his death, though he had done no violence,20 nor was any deceit in his mouth.21 10 Yet it was the LORD's will22 to crush23 him and cause him to suffer,24 and though the LORD makesc his life a guilt offering,25 he will see his offspring26 and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper27 in his hand. 11 After the suffering28 of his soul, he will see the light29 [of life]d and be satisfiede; by his knowledgef my righteous servant30 will justify31 many, and he will bear their iniquities.32 12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,g33 and he will divide the spoils34 with the strong,h because he poured out his life unto death,35 and was numbered with the transgressors.36 For he bore37 the sin of many,38 and made intercession39 for the transgressors.
