8 In a surge of anger1 I hid2 my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness3 I will have compassion4 on you," says the LORD your Redeemer.5 9 "To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.6 So now I have sworn7 not to be angry8 with you, never to rebuke9 you again. 10 Though the mountains be shaken1011 and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love12 for you will not be shaken13 nor my covenant14 of peace15 be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion16 on you. 11 "O afflicted17 city, lashed by storms18 and not comforted,19 I will build you with stones of turquoise,a20 your foundations21 with sapphires.b22 12 I will make your battlements of rubies, your gates23 of sparkling jewels, and all your walls of precious stones. 13 All your sons will be taught by the LORD,24 and great will be your children's peace.25 14 In righteousness26 you will be established:27 Tyranny28 will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear.29 Terror30 will be far removed; it will not come near you. 15 If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender31 to you. 16 "See, it is I who created the blacksmith32 who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon33 fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer34 to work havoc; 17 no weapon forged against you will prevail,35 and you will refute36 every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants37 of the LORD, and this is their vindication38 from me," declares the LORD.
