Isaiah 5:17-27 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
17 Then sheep will graze as in their own pasture;1 lambs will feeda among the ruins of the rich. 18 Woe2 to those who draw sin along with cords3 of deceit, and wickedness4 as with cart ropes, 19 to those who say, "Let God hurry, let him hasten5 his work so we may see it. Let it approach, let the plan of the Holy One6 of Israel come, so we may know it."7 20 Woe8 to those who call evil good9 and good evil,10 who put darkness for light and light for darkness,11 who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.12 21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes13 and clever in their own sight. 22 Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine14 and champions at mixing drinks,15 23 who acquit the guilty for a bribe,16 but deny justice17 to the innocent.18 24 Therefore, as tongues of fire19 lick up straw20 and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay21 and their flowers blow away like dust;22 for they have rejected the law of the LORD Almighty and spurned the word23 of the Holy One24 of Israel. 25 Therefore the LORD's anger25 burns against his people; his hand is raised and he strikes them down. The mountains shake,26 and the dead bodies27 are like refuse28 in the streets.29 Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,30 his hand is still upraised.31 26 He lifts up a banner32 for the distant nations, he whistles33 for those at the ends of the earth.34 Here they come, swiftly and speedily! 27 Not one of them grows tired35 or stumbles, not one slumbers or sleeps; not a belt36 is loosened at the waist,37 not a sandal thong is broken.38
