John 5:13-23 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. 14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning1 or something worse may happen to you." 15 The man went away and told the Jews2 that it was Jesus who had made him well.

Life Through the Son

16 So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted him. 17 Jesus said to them, "My Father3 is always at his work4 to this very day, and I, too, am working." 18 For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him;5 not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.6 19 Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself;7 he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son8 and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these.9 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life,10 even so the Son gives life11 to whom he is pleased to give it. 22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,12 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.13
