1Now when Jesus was borninBethlehem of Judaeain the days of Herod the king,behold , there came wise menfrom the easttoJerusalem,2Saying , Whereis he that is bornKing of the Jews?for we have seenhisstarin the east,and are come to worshiphim.3WhenHerod the king had heard these things, he was troubled , andallJerusalemwithhim.4And when he had gatheredall the chief priestsandscribes of the peopletogether , he demandedofthemwhereChrist should be born .
5And they said unto him,InBethlehem of Judaea:forthus it is writtenby the prophet,6AndthouBethlehem, in the land of Juda,artnot the leastamong the princes of Juda:for out ofthee shall come a Governor , that shall ruleamypeopleIsrael.7ThenHerod, when he had privilycalled the wise men,enquiredofthemdiligently what time the starappeared .
8And he sentthemtoBethlehem, and said , Go and searchdiligentlyfor the young child;andwhen ye have found him, bringme word again , that I may come and worshiphimalso.9When they had heard the king, they departed ; and,lo , the star,which they sawin the east, went beforethem,till it came and stoodoverwhere the young childwas .
10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedinggreatjoy.11And when they were comeinto the house, they saw the young childwithMaryhismother,and fell down , and worshippedhim:and when they had openedtheirtreasures, they presentedb unto himgifts;gold,andfrankincense,andmyrrh.12And being warned of Godin a dream that they shouldnotreturntoHerod, they departedinto their owncountryanotherway.13And when they were departed , behold , the angel of the Lordappeareth to Josephin a dream,saying , Arise , and take the young childandhismother,andfleeintoEgypt,and be thouthereuntilIbringtheeword : forHerodwillseek the young child to destroyhim.14When he arose , he took the young childandhismother by night,anddepartedintoEgypt:15Andwasthereuntil the death of Herod:that it might be fulfilledwhich was spokenof the Lordby the prophet,saying , Out ofEgypt have I calledmyson.16ThenHerod, when he sawthat he was mockedof the wise men, was exceedingwroth , and sent forth , and slewall the children that were inBethlehem,andinall the coaststhereof,from two years oldandunder,according to the timewhich he had diligently enquiredof the wise men.17Then was fulfilled that which was spokenbyJeremy the prophet,saying ,
18InRama was there a voiceheard , lamentation,andweeping,andgreatmourning,Rachelweeping for herchildren,andwouldnot be comforted , because they arenot.19But when Herod was dead , behold , an angel of the Lordappearethin a dream to JosephinEgypt,20Saying , Arise , and take the young childandhismother,andgointo the land of Israel:for they are deadwhichsought the young child'slife.21And he arose , and took the young childandhismother,andcameinto the land of Israel.22But when he heardthatArchelaus did reigninJudaea in the room of hisfatherHerod, he was afraid to gothither:notwithstanding, being warned of Godin a dream, he turned asideinto the parts of Galilee:23And he came and dweltin a citycalledNazareth:that it might be fulfilledwhich was spokenby the prophets , He shall be called a Nazarene.
