Nahum 3:3-13 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
3 Charging cavalry, flashing swords and glittering spears! Many casualties, piles of dead, bodies without number, people stumbling over the corpses1-- 4 all because of the wanton lust of a harlot, alluring, the mistress of sorceries,2 who enslaved nations by her prostitution3 and peoples by her witchcraft. 5 "I am against4 you," declares the LORD Almighty. "I will lift your skirts5 over your face. I will show the nations your nakedness6 and the kingdoms your shame. 6 I will pelt you with filth,7 I will treat you with contempt8 and make you a spectacle.9 7 All who see you will flee10 from you and say, 'Nineveh11 is in ruins12--who will mourn for her?'13 Where can I find anyone to comfort14 you?" 8 Are you better than15 Thebes,a16 situated on the Nile,17 with water around her? The river was her defense, the waters her wall. 9 Cushb18 and Egypt were her boundless strength; Put19 and Libya20 were among her allies. 10 Yet she was taken captive21 and went into exile. Her infants were dashed22 to pieces at the head of every street. Lots23 were cast for her nobles, and all her great men were put in chains.24 11 You too will become drunk;25 you will go into hiding26 and seek refuge from the enemy. 12 All your fortresses are like fig trees with their first ripe fruit;27 when they are shaken, the figs28 fall into the mouth of the eater. 13 Look at your troops-- they are all women!29 The gates30 of your land are wide open to your enemies; fire has consumed their bars.31
