Deuteronomy 30:11-20

11 "For this commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach.
12 "It is not in heaven, that you should say, '1Who will go up to heaven for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?'
13 "Nor is it beyond * the sea, that you should say, 'Who will cross the sea for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?'
14 "But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may observe it.

Choose Life

15 "See, 2I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity;
16 in that I command you today 3to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you 4may live and multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where * you are entering to possess it.
17 "But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them,
18 I declare to you today that 5you shall surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where * you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess it.
19 "6I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, 7the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,
20 8by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and 9by holding fast to Him; 10for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in 11the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them."

Deuteronomy 30:11-20 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO DEUTERONOMY 30

This chapter contains some gracious promises of the conversion of the Jews in the latter day, of their calling things to mind that have befallen them, of their repentance, and the circumcision of their hearts to love the Lord, of the return of them to their own land, and of the great increase of them, and of their enjoyment of plenty of good things, De 30:1-10; in it is an account of the Gospel, or word of faith, which at this time should be brought near to the Jews, and be received by them, De 30:11-14; and for the present Moses desires them to consider what he now set before them, and what would be the consequences of receiving or rejecting it, and so what it would be most proper for them to make choice of, De 30:15-20.
