Now a man from 1the house of Leviwent and amarried a daughter of Levi.
The womanconceived and bore a son; and when she sawbthat he was c2beautiful, she hid him for threemonths.
But when she couldhide him nolonger, she got him a d3wickerebasket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it and set it among the 4reeds by the bank of the Nile.
45His sisterstood at a distance to ffind out what would ghappen to him.
The daughter of Pharaohcamedown6to bathe at the Nile, with her maidenswalkingalongside the Nile; and she saw the hbasketamong the reeds and sent her maid, and she brought it to her.
When she opened it, she isaw the child, and behold, the jboy was crying. And she hadpity on him and said, "This is one of the Hebrews'children."
Then his sistersaid to Pharaoh'sdaughter, "Shall I go and callka nurse for you from the Hebrewwomen that she may nurse the child for you?"

Now it came about in thosedays, 8when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brethren and looked on their n9hardlabors; and 10he saw an Egyptianbeating a Hebrew, one of his brethren.
So he olookedthisway and that, and when he sawthere was noone around, he 11struckdown the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
He went out 12the nextday, and behold, twoHebrews were pfighting with each other; and he said to the qoffender, "Why are you striking your companion?"
But he said, "13Whomade you a rprince or a judgeover us? Are you sintending to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?" Then Moses was afraid and said, "Surely the matter has become known."
When Pharaohheard of thismatter, he tried to killMoses. But 14Mosesfled from the presence of Pharaoh and tsettled in the land of Midian, and he satdown15by a well.
Now 16the priest of Midian had sevendaughters; and 17they came to drawwater and filled the troughs to water their father'sflock.
Then the shepherdscame and drove them away, but 18Mosesstood up and helped them and watered their flock.
When they came to 19Reuel their father, he said, "Why have you come back so soontoday?"
So they said, "An Egyptiandelivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and what is more, he evendrew the water for us and watered the flock."
He said to his daughters, "Where is he then? Why is it that you have left the manbehind? Invite him uto have something to eat."
2120Moses was willing to dwell with the man, and he gave his daughter21Zipporah to Moses.
Then she gavebirth to 22a son, and he named him vGershom, for he said, "I have been23a wsojourner in a foreignland."
Now it came about in the course of thosemanydays that the king of Egyptdied. And the sons of Israel24sighedbecause of the bondage, and they cried out; and 25their cry for helpbecause of their bondagerose up to God.
So 26Godheard their groaning; and Godremembered27His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
2528Godsaw the sons of Israel, and Godxtooknotice of them.
