For indeed we have had goodnewspreached to us, just as they also; but 1the wordathey heard did not profit them, because bit was not united by faith in thosewhoheard.
For we who have believedenter that rest, just as He has said, "2AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished3from the foundation of the world.
For He has said4somewhereconcerning the seventh day: "5AND GOD6RESTED ON THE SEVENTHDAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS ";
and again in this passage, "7THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST."
6Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and thosewhoformerly had goodnewspreached to them failed to enterbecause of 8disobedience,
He againfixes a certainday, "Today," sayingcthroughDavidaftersolong a timejust9as has been saidbefore, "10TODAYIF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS."
For 11ifdJoshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of anotherdayafter that.
9So there remains a Sabbathrest for the people of God.
For the one who has entered His rest has himselfalso12rested from his works, as 13God did from His.
11Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that noone will fall, through following the same14example of 15disobedience.
For 16the word of God is 17living and 18active and sharperthananytwo-edged19sword, and piercing as far as the division of 20soul and 21spirit, of bothjoints and marrow, and 22able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
