Jonah's Prayer

1 ^aThen Jonah prayed to the LORD his God ¹from the stomach of the fish, 2 and he said, "I ²called out of my distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the ^bdepth of ³Sheol ; You heard my voice. 3 "For You had ⁴cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the current ^cengulfed me. All Your ⁵breakers and billows passed over me. 4 "So I said, 'I have been ⁶expelled from ^dYour sight. Nevertheless I will look again ⁷toward Your holy temple.' 5 "⁸Water encompassed me to the ^epoint of death. The great ⁹deep ^fengulfed me, Weeds were wrapped around my head. 6 "I ¹⁰descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its ¹¹bars was around me forever, But You have ¹²brought up my life from ^gthe pit, O LORD my God. 7 "While ^hI was ¹³fainting away, I ¹⁴remembered the LORD, And my ¹⁵prayer came to You, Into ¹⁶Your holy temple. 8 "Those who ¹⁷regard ⁱvain idols Forsake their faithfulness, 9 But I will ¹⁸sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving. That which I have vowed I will ¹⁹pay. ²⁰Salvation is from the LORD." 10 Then the LORD commanded the ²¹fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.
