1aThen Jonahprayed to the LORD his God1from the stomach of the fish,

and he said, "I 2called out of my distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the bdepth of 3Sheol ; You heard my voice.

"For You had 4cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the currentcengulfed me. All Your 5breakers and billowspassedover me.

"So I said, 'I have been 6expelled from dYour sight. Nevertheless I will lookagain7toward Your holytemple.'

"8Waterencompassed me to the epoint of death. The great 9deepfengulfed me, Weeds were wrapped around my head.

"I 10descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its 11bars was around me forever, But You have 12brought up my life from gthe pit, O LORD my God.

"While hI was 13faintingaway, I 14remembered the LORD, And my 15prayercame to You, Into 16Your holytemple.

"Those who 17regardivainidolsForsake their faithfulness,
9
But I will 18sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving. That which I have vowed I will 19pay. 20Salvation is from the LORD."

Then the LORDcommanded the 21fish, and it vomitedJonah up onto the dryland.
