2 Kings 9:34

2 Kings 9:34 Meaning and Commentary

2 Kings 9:34

And when he was come in
To the palace:

he did eat and drink;
to refresh himself after so long a march, and doing such execution:

and said, go see now this cursed woman;
who had been the means of bringing a curse on Israel through her idolatry, and upon Ahab and his family, and upon herself, body and soul, being cursed of God and of men:

and bury her;
forgetting the prophecy concerning her, though afterwards he remembered it:

for she is a king's daughter:
the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, ( 1 Kings 16:31 ) and therefore, in honour to royal dignity, though a cursed woman, he ordered the interment of her; or "though" she is the daughter of one of the kings of the nations of the world, as Kimchi, yet honour must be given to whom it is due.

2 Kings 9:34 In-Context

32 He looked up at the window. "Who is on my side?" he called out. "Who?" Two or three officials looked down at him.
33 "Throw her down!" Jehu said. So they threw her down. Some of her blood splashed on the wall. Some of it splashed on Jehu's chariot horses as they ran over her.
34 Jehu went inside. He ate and drank. "The LORD put a curse on that woman," he said. "Take proper care of her body. Bury it. After all, she was a king's daughter."
35 So they went out to bury her body. But all they found was her skull, feet and hands.
36 They went back and reported it to Jehu. He told them, "That's what the LORD said would happen. He announced it through his servant Elijah, who was from Tishbe. He said, 'On a piece of land at Jezreel, dogs will eat up Jezebel's body.
