13 Y vino el aviso a David, diciendo: El corazón del varón de Israel se va tras Absalón

14 Entonces David dijo a todos sus siervos que estaban con él en Jerusalén: Levantaos, y huyamos, porque no podremos escapar de otra manera delante de Absalón; daos prisa a andar, no sea que apresurándose él nos alcance, y arroje el mal sobre nosotros, y hiera la ciudad a filo de espada

15 Y los siervos del rey dijeron al rey: He aquí, tus siervos están listos a todo lo que nuestro señor el rey eligiere

16 El rey entonces salió, con toda su casa a pie; y dejó el rey diez mujeres concubinas para que guardaran la casa

17 Salió, pues, el rey con todo el pueblo a pie, y se pararon en un lugar distante

18 Y todos sus siervos pasaban a su lado, y todos los cereteos y peleteos; y todos los geteos, seiscientos hombres que habían venido a pie con él desde Gat, iban delante del rey

19 Y dijo el rey a Itai, el geteo: ¿Para qué vienes tú también con nosotros? Vuélvete y quédate con el rey; porque tú eres extranjero, y desterrado también de tu lugar

20 ¿Ayer viniste, y he de hacer hoy que mudes lugar para ir con nosotros? Yo voy como voy; tú vuélvete, y haz volver a tus hermanos; en ti hay misericordia y verdad

21 Y respondió Itai al rey, diciendo: Vive Dios, y vive mi señor el rey, que, o para muerte o para vida, donde mi señor el rey estuviere, allí estará también tu siervo

22 Entonces David dijo a Itai: Ven pues, y pasa. Y pasó Itai, el geteo, y todos sus varones, y todos sus pequeños

23 Y todos los de la tierra lloraron en alta voz; y pasó todo el pueblo el arroyo de Cedrón; y después pasó el rey, y todo el pueblo pasó, al camino que va al desierto

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 15

This chapter relates how that Absalom by various artful methods stole away the hearts of the people of Israel, 2Sa 15:1-6; that pretending a vow he had made, he got leave of the king to go to Hebron to perform it, 2Sa 15:7-9; where he formed a considerable conspiracy, 2Sa 15:10-12; of which David having information, thought it advisable to depart from Jerusalem, both for his own safety, and the good of the city, which he did with his family, and guards, and much people, 2Sa 15:13-18; though he would have persuaded Ittai the Gittite to have returned, but could not prevail upon him, 2Sa 15:19-23; however, he sent back the priests and the Levites with the ark, lest any harm should come to that, 2Sa 15:24-29; and as he and the people went up the mount of Olives weeping, it was told him that Ahithophel was among the conspirators, on which he put up a prayer that his counsel might be infatuated, 2Sa 15:30,31; and Hushai the Archite coming to him at that juncture, he sent him back to Jerusalem to defeat the counsel of Ahithophel, and to send him word by the priests what he should hear there from time to time, 2Sa 15:32-37.
