2 Samuel 22:27-37

27 Avec celui qui est pur tu te montres pur, Et avec le pervers tu agis selon sa perversité.

28 Tu sauves le peuple qui s'humilie, Et de ton regard, tu abaisses les orgueilleux.

29 Oui, tu es ma lumière, ô Eternel! L'Eternel éclaire mes ténèbres.

30 Avec toi je me précipite sur une troupe en armes, Avec mon Dieu je franchis une muraille.

31 Les voies de Dieu sont parfaites, La parole de l'Eternel est éprouvée; Il est un bouclier pour tous ceux qui se confient en lui.

32 Car qui est Dieu, si ce n'est l'Eternel? Et qui est un rocher, si ce n'est notre Dieu?

33 C'est Dieu qui est ma puissante forteresse, Et qui me conduit dans la voie droite.

34 Il rend mes pieds semblables à ceux des biches, Et il me place sur mes lieux élevés.

35 Il exerce mes mains au combat, Et mes bras tendent l'arc d'airain.

36 Tu me donnes le bouclier de ton salut, Et je deviens grand par ta bonté.

37 Tu élargis le chemin sous mes pas, Et mes pieds ne chancellent point.

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 22

This chapter contains a song or psalm, the same with the eighteenth psalm, and which, according to Jarchi, was composed by David in his old age, and, as Kimchi says, at the end or close of his days; but Abarbinel is of opinion that it was written in his youthful time, in the midst of his troubles, and was sung by him as often as he had a deliverance from any; and which may account for the several variations in it from the eighteenth psalm, which, the same writer observes, are seventy four; and are not to be ascribed to the difference of copies, or neglect of copiers: and very probably, towards the close of his days, he revised it, and made it fit for general use, and sent it with the rest of his psalms to the chief musician; but the particular consideration of it, and of the differences in it from Ps 18:1-50 are referred to the exposition of that book in its course.
