16"1Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomyface as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearanceso that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. 2Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Fatherwho is in secret; and your 4Fatherwhosees what is done in secret will reward you.

"5Do not store up for yourselvestreasures on earth, wheremoth and rustdestroy, and wherethievesbreak in and steal.

"But store up for yourselves6treasures in heaven, whereneithermothnorrustdestroys, and wherethieves do not break in orsteal;

for 7where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

"8The eye is the lamp of the body; sothenif your eye is clear, your wholebody will be full of light.

"But if9your eye is bad, your wholebody will be full of darkness. Ifthen the light that is in you is darkness, howgreat is the darkness!

"10Noonecanservetwomasters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot*serveGod and 11wealth.
The Cure for Anxiety
25"12For thisreason I say to you, do not be 13worriedabout your life, as to what you will eatorwhat you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not lifemore than food, and the bodymore than clothing?

"14Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, norreapnorgather into barns, and yet your heavenlyFatherfeeds them. Are you not worthmuchmore than they?

"And who of you by being 15worriedcan16add a single hour to his life?

"And why are you 17worriedaboutclothing? Observehow the lilies of the fieldgrow; they do not toilnor do they spin,

yet I say to you that not even18Solomon in all his gloryclothed himself likeone of these.

"But ifGodsoclothes the 19grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not muchmore clothe you? 20You of littlefaith!

"Do not 21worrythen, saying, 'What will we eat?' or'What will we drink?' or'What will we wear for clothing?'

"For the Gentileseagerlyseekallthesethings; for 22your heavenlyFatherknows that you needallthesethings.

"But seekfirst His kingdom and His righteousness, and 23allthesethings will be added to you.

"So do not 24worryabouttomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enoughtrouble of its own.
