and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law,1 but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness2 that comes from God and is by faith.310
I want to know4 Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings,5 becoming like him in his death,611
and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection7 from the dead.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect,8 but I press on to take hold9 of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.1013
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind11 and straining toward what is ahead,
I press on12 toward the goal to win the prize13 for which God has called14 me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
All of us who are mature15 should take such a view of things.16 And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.1716
Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
Join with others in following my example,18 brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you.1918
For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears,20 many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.2119
Their destiny22 is destruction, their god is their stomach,23 and their glory is in their shame.24 Their mind is on earthly things.25
