Psalm 78:54-64 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
54 Thus he brought them to the border of his holy land, to the hill country his right hand1 had taken. 55 He drove out nations2 before them and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance;3 he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes. 56 But they put God to the test and rebelled against the Most High; they did not keep his statutes. 57 Like their fathers4 they were disloyal and faithless, as unreliable as a faulty bow.5 58 They angered him6 with their high places;7 they aroused his jealousy with their idols.8 59 When God heard9 them, he was very angry;10 he rejected Israel11 completely. 60 He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh,12 the tent he had set up among men.13 61 He sent [the ark of] his might14 into captivity,15 his splendor into the hands of the enemy. 62 He gave his people over to the sword;16 he was very angry with his inheritance.17 63 Fire consumed18 their young men, and their maidens had no wedding songs;19 64 their priests were put to the sword,20 and their widows could not weep.
