Dear friends, let us love one another,1 for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God2 and knows God.38
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.49
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son5 into the world that we might live through him.610
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us7 and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.811
Dear friends,9 since God so loved us,10 we also ought to love one another.1112
No one has ever seen God;12 but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.1313
This is how we know14 that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.1514
And we have seen and testify16 that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.1715
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,18 God lives in them and they in God.1916
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.20 Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.2117
This is how love is made complete22 among us so that we will have confidence23 on the day of judgment:24 In this world we are like Jesus.
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,25 because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
We love because he first loved us.2620
If we say we love God yet hate a brother or sister,27 we are liars.28 For if we do not love a fellow believer, whom we have seen,29 we cannot love God, whom we have not seen.3021
And he has given us this command:31 Those who love God must also love one another.32
