I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers,1 intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
for kings and all those in authority,2 that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness3 and holiness.
This is good, and pleases4 God our Savior,54
who wants6 all people7 to be saved8 and to come to a knowledge of the truth.95
For there is one God10 and one mediator11 between God and human beings, Christ Jesus, himself human,126
who gave himself as a ransom13 for all people. This has now been witnessed to14 at the proper time.157
And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying16--and a true and faithful teacher17 of the Gentiles.188
Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands19 without anger or disputing.
