Giudici 2:2-12

2 Ma voi altresì non patteggiate con gli abitanti di questo paese; disfate i loro altari; ma voi non avete ubbidito alla mia voce; che cosa è questa che voi avete fatta?

3 Perciò io altresì ho detto: Io non li scaccerò d’innanzi a voi; anzi vi saranno a’ fianchi, e i lor dii vi saranno per laccio.

4 E mentre l’Angelo del Signore diceva queste parole a tutti i figliuoli d’Israele, il popolo alzò la voce, e pianse.

5 Onde posero nome a quel luogo Bochim; e quivi sacrificarono al Signore.

6 OR Giosuè rimandò il popolo; e i figliuoli d’Israele se ne andarono ciascuno alla sua eredità, per possedere il paese.

7 E il popolo servì al Signore tutto il tempo di Giosuè, e tutto il tempo degli Anziani che sopravvissero a Giosuè, i quali aveano vedute tutte le grandi opere del Signore, le quali egli avea fatte inverso Israele.

8 Poi Giosuè, figliuolo di Nun, servitor del Signore, morì d’età di cendieci anni;

9 e fu seppellito ne’ confini della sua eredità in Timnat-heres, nel monte d’Efraim, dal Settentrione del monte di Gaas.

10 E tutta quella generazione ancora fu raccolta a’ suoi padri; poi, surse dopo loro un’altra generazione, la quale non avea conosciuto il Signore, nè le opere ch’egli avea fatte inverso Israele.

11 E i figliuoli d’Israele fecero ciò che dispiace al Signore, e servirono a’ Baali.

12 E abbandonarono il Signore Iddio de’ lor padri, il quale li avea tratti fuor del paese di Egitto, e andarono dietro ad altri dii, d’infra gl’iddii de’ popoli ch’erano d’intorno a loro; e li adorarono, e irritarono il Signore.

INTRODUCTION TO JUDGES 2

This chapter gives an account of an angel of the Lord appearing and rebuking the children of Israel for their present misconduct, Jud 2:1-5; of their good behaviour under Joshua, and the elders that outlived him, Jud 2:6-10; and of their idolatries they fell into afterwards, which greatly provoked the Lord to anger, Jud 2:11-15; and of the goodness of God to them nevertheless, in raising up judges to deliver them out of the hands of their enemies, of which there are many instances in the following chapter, Jud 2:16-18; and yet that how, upon the demise of such persons, they relapsed into idolatry which caused the anger of God to be hot against them, and to determine not to drive out the Canaanites utterly from them, but to leave them among them to try them, Jud 2:19-23.
