Sowhen the chiefpriests and the officerssaw Him, they cried out saying, "Crucify, crucify!" Pilatesaid to them, "Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for I findnoguilt in Him."

Jesusanswered, "You would haveno*authorityover Me, unless* it had beengiven you from above; for thisreason he who delivered Me to you has the greatersin."

As a result of thisPilatemadeefforts to release Him, but the Jewscried out saying, "If you releasethisMan, you are nofriend of Caesar; everyone who makeshimself out to be a kingopposesCaesar."

So they cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilatesaid to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chiefpriestsanswered, "We havenoking but Caesar."

Thereforemany of the Jewsreadthisinscription, for the placewhereJesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin and in Greek.

Then the soldiers, when they had crucifiedJesus, took His outergarments and madefourparts, a part to everysoldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in onepiece.

So they said to oneanother, "Let us not tear it, but castlots for it, to decide whose it shall be"; this was to fulfill the Scripture: "THEY DIVIDED MY OUTERGARMENTSAMONG THEM, AND FOR MY CLOTHING THEY CASTLOTS."

Therefore the soldiersdidthesethings. But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother'ssister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and MaryMagdalene.

Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a highday ), askedPilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be takenaway.
