And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damselcame to hearken,[a]namedRhoda.

And when she knewPeter'svoice, she openednot the gateforgladness,but ran in, and told howPeterstoodbefore the gate.

And they saiduntoher, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so.Then said they, It ishisangel.

ButPetercontinuedknocking: and when they had opened the door, and sawhim*, they were astonished.

But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto themhow the Lord had broughthim out of the prison.And he said, Go shew these things unto James,and to the brethren.And he departed, and wentintoanotherplace.

Now as soon as it wasday, there wasnosmallstiramong the soldiers,whatwasbecome of Peter.

AndwhenHerod had sought forhim,and found himnot, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went downfromJudaeatoCaesarea, and there abode.

AndHerodwas highly displeased with them of TyreandSidon:but they came with one accordtohim,and, having madeBlastus the king'schamberlaintheirfriend, desiredpeace;becausetheircountry was nourishedby the king's country.

And upon a setdayHerod,arrayed in royalapparel,satupon his throne,and made an orationuntothem.

And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god,andnot of a man.

Andimmediately the angel of the Lordsmotehim,becausehegavenotGod the glory:and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
