Thosepassing by were hurlingabuse at Him, 1wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha! You who are going to 2destroy the temple and rebuild it in threedays,

In the sameway the chiefpriestsalso, along with the scribes, were mocking Him amongthemselves and saying, "3He savedothers; He cannot*saveHimself.

"Let this Christ, 4the King of Israel, nowcomedown from the cross, so that we may see and believe!" 5Those who were crucified with Him were alsoinsulting Him.

6When the 7sixthhourcame, darknessfellover the wholelanduntil the 8ninthhour.

At the 9ninthhourJesuscried out with a loudvoice, "10ELOI, ELOI, LAMASABACHTHANI?"which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY* HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

When some of the bystandersheard it, they began saying, "Behold, He is calling for Elijah."

Someoneran and filled a sponge with sourwine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, "Let us seewhetherElijah will come to take Him down."

11And Jesusuttered a loudcry, and breathed His last.

12And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

13When the centurion, who was standingright in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Trulythisman was the Son of God!"
