Hosea 11:3-12 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms;1 but they did not realize it was I who healed2 them. 4 I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love;3 I lifted the yoke4 from their neck and bent down to feed5 them.6 5 "Will they not return to Egypt7 and will not Assyria8 rule over them because they refuse to repent?9 6 Swords10 will flash in their cities, will destroy the bars11 of their gates and put an end to their plans. 7 My people are determined to turn12 from me.13 Even if they call to the Most High, he will by no means exalt them. 8 "How can I give you up,14 Ephraim?15 How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim?16 My heart is changed within me; all my compassion17 is aroused.18 9 I will not carry out my fierce anger,19 nor will I turn and devastate20 Ephraim. For I am God, and not man21-- the Holy One22 among you. I will not come in wrath.a 10 They will follow the LORD; he will roar23 like a lion.24 When he roars, his children will come trembling25 from the west.26 11 They will come trembling like birds from Egypt, like doves27 from Assyria.28 I will settle them in their homes,"29 declares the LORD.
