"The lamp of the wicked is snuffed out;1 the flame of his fire stops burning.26
The light in his tent3 becomes dark;4 the lamp beside him goes out.57
The vigor6 of his step is weakened;7 his own schemes8 throw him down.98
His feet thrust him into a net10 and he wanders into its mesh.
A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare11 holds him fast.1210
A noose13 is hidden for him on the ground; a trap14 lies in his path.1511
Terrors16 startle him on every side17 and dog18 his every step.
Calamity19 is hungry20 for him; disaster21 is ready for him when he falls.2213
It eats away parts of his skin;23 death's firstborn devours his limbs.2414
He is torn from the security of his tent25 and marched off to the king26 of terrors.2715
Fire residesa in his tent;28 burning sulfur29 is scattered over his dwelling.
His roots dry up below30 and his branches wither above.3117
The memory of him perishes from the earth;32 he has no name33 in the land.3418
He is driven from light into darkness35 and is banished36 from the world.3719
He has no offspring38 or descendants39 among his people, no survivor40 where once he lived.4120
Men of the west are appalled42 at his fate;43 men of the east are seized with horror.
Surely such is the dwelling44 of an evil man;45 such is the place46 of one who knows not God."47
