181Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, âWho do the crowds say that I am? â
19
And they answered, 2âJohn the Baptist. But others say, 3Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen. â
20

Jesus Foretells His Death
215And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one,
22
6saying, 7âThe Son of Man must 8suffer many things and 9be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on 10the third day be raised. â
Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus
23 And he said to all, âIf anyone would come after me, let him 11deny himself and 12take up his cross 13daily and follow me.
24
For 14whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
25
15For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?
26
For 16whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed 17when he comes in 18his glory and the glory of the Father and of 19the holy angels.
27
But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not 20taste death 21until they see the kingdom of God. â
