Return,1 O Israel, to the LORD your God. Your sins2 have been your downfall!32
Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to him: "Forgive4 all our sins and receive us graciously,5 that we may offer the fruit of our lips.a63
Assyria cannot save us;7 we will not mount war-horses.8 We will never again say 'Our gods'9 to what our own hands have made,10 for in you the fatherless11 find compassion."
"I will heal12 their waywardness13 and love them freely,14 for my anger has turned away15 from them.
I will be like the dew16 to Israel; he will blossom like a lily.17 Like a cedar of Lebanon18 he will send down his roots;196
his young shoots will grow. His splendor will be like an olive tree,20 his fragrance like a cedar of Lebanon.217
Men will dwell again in his shade.22 He will flourish like the grain. He will blossom23 like a vine, and his fame will be like the wine24 from Lebanon.258
O Ephraim, what more have Ib to do with idols?26 I will answer him and care for him. I am like a green pine27 tree; your fruitfulness comes from me."
Who is wise?28 He will realize these things. Who is discerning? He will understand them.29 The ways of the LORD are right;30 the righteous walk31 in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.
