1
In that day1 this song will be sung2 in the land of Judah: We have a strong city;3 God makes salvation its walls4 and ramparts.52
Open the gates6 that the righteous7 nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith.
3
You will keep in perfect peace8 him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts9 in you.
4
Trust10 in the LORD forever,11 for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock12 eternal.
5
He humbles those who dwell on high, he lays the lofty city low; he levels it to the ground13 and casts it down to the dust.146
Feet trample15 it down-- the feet of the oppressed,16 the footsteps of the poor.177
The path of the righteous is level;18 O upright One,19 you make the way of the righteous smooth.208
Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws,a21 we wait22 for you; your name23 and renown are the desire of our hearts.
9
My soul yearns for you in the night;24 in the morning my spirit longs25 for you. When your judgments26 come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.2710
Though grace is shown to the wicked,28 they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil29 and regard30 not the majesty of the LORD.
11
O LORD, your hand is lifted high,31 but they do not see32 it. Let them see your zeal33 for your people and be put to shame;34 let the fire35 reserved for your enemies consume them.
12
LORD, you establish peace36 for us; all that we have accomplished you have done37 for us.
13
O LORD, our God, other lords38 besides you have ruled over us, but your name39 alone do we honor.4014
They are now dead,41 they live no more; those departed spirits42 do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin;43 you wiped out all memory of them.4415
You have enlarged the nation, O LORD; you have enlarged the nation.45 You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders46 of the land.
16
LORD, they came to you in their distress;47 when you disciplined48 them, they could barely whisper49 a prayer.b17
As a woman with child and about to give birth50 writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, O LORD.
18
We were with child, we writhed in pain, but we gave birth51 to wind. We have not brought salvation52 to the earth; we have not given birth to people of the world.5319
But your dead54 will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust,55 wake up and shout for joy. Your dew56 is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.5720
Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors58 behind you; hide59 yourselves for a little while until his wrath60 has passed by.6121
See, the LORD is coming62 out of his dwelling63 to punish64 the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood65 shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer.
