"The multitude of your sacrifices-- what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals;1 I have no pleasure2 in the blood of bulls3 and lambs and goats.412
When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you,5 this trampling of my courts?
Stop bringing meaningless offerings!6 Your incense7 is detestable8 to me. New Moons,9 Sabbaths and convocations10-- I cannot bear your evil assemblies.
Your New Moon11 festivals and your appointed feasts12 my soul hates.13 They have become a burden to me;14 I am weary15 of bearing them.
When you spread out your hands16 in prayer, I will hide17 my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen.18 Your hands19 are full of blood;2016
wash21 and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight!22 Stop doing wrong,2317
learn to do right!24 Seek justice,25 encourage the oppressed.a26 Defend the cause of the fatherless,27 plead the case of the widow.2818
"Come now, let us reason together,"29 says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;30 though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.3119
If you are willing and obedient,32 you will eat the best from the land;3320
but if you resist and rebel,34 you will be devoured by the sword."35 For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.3621
See how the faithful city has become a harlot!37 She once was full of justice; righteousness38 used to dwell in her-- but now murderers!39
