18
"Come now, let us reason together,"1 says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;2 though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.319
If you are willing and obedient,4 you will eat the best from the land;520
but if you resist and rebel,6 you will be devoured by the sword."7 For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.821
See how the faithful city has become a harlot!9 She once was full of justice; righteousness10 used to dwell in her-- but now murderers!1122
Your silver has become dross,12 your choice wine is diluted with water.
23
Your rulers are rebels,13 companions of thieves;14 they all love bribes15 and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow's case does not come before them.1624
Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty, the Mighty One17 of Israel, declares: "Ah, I will get relief from my foes and avenge18 myself on my enemies.1925
I will turn my hand against you;20 I will thoroughly purge21 away your dross22 and remove all your impurities.2326
I will restore your judges as in days of old,24 your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you will be called25 the City of Righteousness,26 the Faithful City.27"
27
Zion will be redeemed with justice, her penitent28 ones with righteousness.2928
But rebels and sinners30 will both be broken, and those who forsake31 the LORD will perish.32
