5 Why should you be beaten1 anymore? Why do you persist2 in rebellion?3 Your whole head is injured, your whole heart4 afflicted.5 6 From the sole of your foot to the top of your head6 there is no soundness7-- only wounds and welts8 and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged9 or soothed with oil.10 7 Your country is desolate,11 your cities burned with fire;12 your fields are being stripped by foreigners13 right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.14 8 The Daughter of Zion15 is left16 like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut17 in a field of melons, like a city under siege. 9 Unless the LORD Almighty had left us some survivors,18 we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.19 10 Hear the word of the LORD,20 you rulers of Sodom;21 listen to the law22 of our God, you people of Gomorrah!23 11 "The multitude of your sacrifices-- what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals;24 I have no pleasure25 in the blood of bulls26 and lambs and goats.27 12 When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you,28 this trampling of my courts? 13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!29 Your incense30 is detestable31 to me. New Moons,32 Sabbaths and convocations33-- I cannot bear your evil assemblies. 14 Your New Moon34 festivals and your appointed feasts35 my soul hates.36 They have become a burden to me;37 I am weary38 of bearing them. 15 When you spread out your hands39 in prayer, I will hide40 my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen.41 Your hands42 are full of blood;43
