But Pharaoh's protection will be to your shame, Egypt's shade1 will bring you disgrace.24
Though they have officials in Zoan3 and their envoys have arrived in Hanes,
everyone will be put to shame because of a people4 useless5 to them, who bring neither help6 nor advantage, but only shame and disgrace.7"
An oracle8 concerning the animals of the Negev:9 Through a land of hardship and distress,10 of lions11 and lionesses, of adders and darting snakes,12 the envoys carry their riches on donkeys'13 backs, their treasures14 on the humps of camels, to that unprofitable nation,
to Egypt, whose help is utterly useless.15 Therefore I call her Rahab16 the Do-Nothing.
Go now, write it on a tablet17 for them, inscribe it on a scroll,18 that for the days to come it may be an everlasting witness.199
These are rebellious20 people, deceitful21 children, children unwilling to listen to the LORD's instruction.2210
They say to the seers,23 "See no more visions24!" and to the prophets, "Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things,25 prophesy illusions.2611
Leave this way,27 get off this path, and stop confronting28 us with the Holy One29 of Israel!"
Therefore, this is what the Holy One30 of Israel says: "Because you have rejected this message,31 relied on oppression32 and depended on deceit,
this sin will become for you like a high wall,33 cracked and bulging, that collapses34 suddenly,35 in an instant.
