everyone will be put to shame because of a people1 useless2 to them, who bring neither help3 nor advantage, but only shame and disgrace.4"

An oracle5 concerning the animals of the Negev:6 Through a land of hardship and distress,7 of lions8 and lionesses, of adders and darting snakes,9 the envoys carry their riches on donkeys'10 backs, their treasures11 on the humps of camels, to that unprofitable nation,

to Egypt, whose help is utterly useless.12 Therefore I call her Rahab13 the Do-Nothing.

Go now, write it on a tablet14 for them, inscribe it on a scroll,15 that for the days to come it may be an everlasting witness.169
These are rebellious17 people, deceitful18 children, children unwilling to listen to the LORD's instruction.1910
They say to the seers,20 "See no more visions21!" and to the prophets, "Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things,22 prophesy illusions.2311
Leave this way,24 get off this path, and stop confronting25 us with the Holy One26 of Israel!"

Therefore, this is what the Holy One27 of Israel says: "Because you have rejected this message,28 relied on oppression29 and depended on deceit,

this sin will become for you like a high wall,30 cracked and bulging, that collapses31 suddenly,32 in an instant.

It will break in pieces like pottery,33 shattered so mercilessly that among its pieces not a fragment will be found for taking coals from a hearth or scooping water out of a cistern."

This is what the Sovereign34 LORD, the Holy One35 of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest36 is your salvation, in quietness and trust37 is your strength, but you would have none of it.38
