Instead, they will serve the LORD their God and David1 their king,2 whom I will raise up for them.
" 'So do not fear,3 O Jacob my servant;4 do not be dismayed, O Israel,' declares the LORD. 'I will surely save5 you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their exile. Jacob will again have peace and security,6 and no one will make him afraid.711
I am with you8 and will save you,' declares the LORD. 'Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy9 you. I will discipline10 you but only with justice; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.'1112
"This is what the LORD says: " 'Your wound12 is incurable, your injury beyond healing.1313
There is no one to plead your cause,14 no remedy for your sore, no healing15 for you.
All your allies16 have forgotten you; they care nothing for you. I have struck you as an enemy17 would and punished you as would the cruel,18 because your guilt is so great and your sins19 so many.
Why do you cry out over your wound, your pain that has no cure?20 Because of your great guilt and many sins I have done these things to you.2116
" 'But all who devour22 you will be devoured; all your enemies will go into exile.23 Those who plunder24 you will be plundered; all who make spoil of you I will despoil.
But I will restore you to health and heal25 your wounds,' declares the LORD, 'because you are called an outcast,26 Zion for whom no one cares.'2718
"This is what the LORD says: " 'I will restore the fortunes28 of Jacob's tents29 and have compassion30 on his dwellings; the city will be rebuilt31 on her ruins, and the palace will stand in its proper place.
From them will come songs32 of thanksgiving33 and the sound of rejoicing.34 I will add to their numbers,35 and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honor,36 and they will not be disdained.
