If you really change1 your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly,26
if you do not oppress3 the alien, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood4 in this place, and if you do not follow other gods5 to your own harm,
then I will let you live in this place, in the land6 I gave your forefathers7 for ever and ever.
But look, you are trusting8 in deceptive9 words that are worthless.
" 'Will you steal10 and murder,11 commit adultery12 and perjury,a13 burn incense to Baal1415 and follow other gods16 you have not known,
and then come and stand17 before me in this house,18 which bears my Name, and say, "We are safe"--safe to do all these detestable things?1911
Has this house,20 which bears my Name, become a den of robbers21 to you? But I have been watching!22 declares the LORD.
" 'Go now to the place in Shiloh23 where I first made a dwelling24 for my Name,25 and see what I did26 to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.
While you were doing all these things, declares the LORD, I spoke27 to you again and again,28 but you did not listen;29 I called30 you, but you did not answer.3114
Therefore, what I did to Shiloh32 I will now do to the house that bears my Name,33 the temple34 you trust in, the place I gave to you and your fathers.
I will thrust you from my presence,35 just as I did all your brothers, the people of Ephraim.'36
