Sofonias 3:9-20

9 “Então purificarei os lábios dos povos,para que todos eles invoquem o nome doe o sirvam de comum acordo.

10 Desde além dos rios da Etiópiaos meus adoradores, o meu povo disperso,me trarão ofertas.

11 Naquele dia, vocês não serão envergonhadospelos seus atos de rebelião,porque retirarei desta cidadeos que se regozijam em seu orgulho.Nunca mais vocês serão altivosno meu santo monte.

12 Mas deixarei no meio da cidadeos mansos e humildes,que se refugiarão no nome do SENHOR.

13 O remanescente de Israel não cometerá injustiças;eles não mentirão,nem se achará enganoem suas bocas.Eles se alimentarão e descansarão,sem que ninguém os amedronte”.

14 Cante, ó cidade^[a] de Sião;exulte, ó Israel!Alegre-se, regozije-se de todo o coração,ó cidade de Jerusalém!

15 O SENHOR anulou a sentença contra você,ele fez retroceder os seus inimigos.O SENHOR, o Rei de Israel, está em seu meio;nunca mais você temerá perigo algum.

16 Naquele dia, dirão a Jerusalém:“Não tema, ó Sião;não deixe suas mãos enfraquecerem.

17 O SENHOR, o seu Deus, está em seu meio,poderoso para salvar.Ele se regozijará em você;com o seu amor a renovará,^[b]ele se regozijará em você com brados de alegria”.

18 “Eu ajuntarei os que chorampelas festas fixas, os que se afastaram de vocês,para que isso não mais pese como vergonha para vocês.

19 Nessa época, agireicontra todos os que oprimiram vocês;salvarei os aleijadose ajuntarei os dispersos.Darei a eles louvor e honraem todas as terras onde foram envergonhados.

20 Naquele tempo, eu ajuntarei vocês;naquele tempo, os trarei para casa.Eu darei a vocês honra e louvorentre todos os povos da terra,quando eu restaurar a sua sorte^[c]diante dos seus próprios olhos”,diz o SENHOR.

Sofonias 3:9-20 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO ZEPHANIAH 3

In this chapter the character of the city of Jerusalem, and its inhabitants in general, is drawn, as it would be, and as it was, in the times of Christ and his apostles, Zep 3:1,2 and of the principal persons of it in particular, its princes, judges, prophets, and priests, Zep 3:3,4. The hardness, impenitence, and shamelessness of this people, are exposed and aggravated by the just Lord being among them; who, by his example and doctrine, taught them otherwise; yet they were not amended or made ashamed, Zep 3:5 nor received instruction, nor took warning by the judgments of God on other nations, Zep 3:6,7 wherefore the followers of God are called upon to wait his time, who would gather many people together, and destroy the whole land of Judea, Zep 3:8 at which time he would send his Gospel among the Gentiles, who should thereby be brought to the true worship and service of God, Zep 3:9,10 though there should be a remnant among the Jews, according to the election of grace, that should be saved from that general calamity, Zep 3:11-13 and the spiritual Israel are encouraged with promises of better times, when the Jews in general should be converted and gathered into the church of God, have the presence and protection of God with them, and deliverance from all their enemies, and be a praise among all people of the earth, Zep 3:14-20.
