<The psalm of David when he fled from the face of his son Absalom.> (3:1) 1 O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!
Many say to my soul: There is no salvation for him in his God. 2 Many are saying of me, "God will not deliver him." "Selah"
But thou, O Lord, art my protector, my glory, and the lifter up of my head. 3 But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
I have cried to the Lord with my voice: and he hath heard me from his holy hill. 4 To the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. "Selah"
I have slept and have taken my rest: and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me. 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
I will not fear thousands of the people surrounding me: arise, O Lord; save me, O my God. 6 I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side.
For thou hast struck all them who are my adversaries without cause: thou hast broken the teeth of sinners. 7 Arise, O LORD! Deliver me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
Salvation is of the Lord: and thy blessing is upon thy people. 8 From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. "Selah"
