CEB 1 In the city belonging to our God, the LORD is great and so worthy of praise! His holy mountain NRS 1 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God. His holy mountain, CEB 2 is a beautiful summit, the joy of the whole world. Mount Zion, in the far north, is the city of the great king. NRS 2 beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. CEB 3 God is in its fortifications, revealing himself as a place of safety. NRS 3 Within its citadels God has shown himself a sure defense. CEB 4 Look: the kings assembled themselves, advancing all together— NRS 4 Then the kings assembled, they came on together. CEB 5 when they saw it, they were stunned; they panicked and ran away frightened. NRS 5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded; they were in panic, they took to flight; CEB 6 Trembling took hold of them right there— like a woman giving birth, NRS 6 trembling took hold of them there, pains as of a woman in labor, CEB 7 or like the east wind when it smashes the ships of Tarshish. NRS 7 as when an east wind shatters the ships of Tarshish. CEB 8 Just like we had heard, now we've seen it for ourselves in the city of the LORD of heavenly forces, in the city of our God. May God make it secure forever! Selah NRS 8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God, which God establishes forever. (Selah) CEB 9 We dwell on your faithful love, God, in your temple. NRS 9 We ponder your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple. CEB 10 Your praise, God, just like your reputation, extends to the far corners of the earth. Your strong hand is filled with righteousness. NRS 10 Your name, O God, like your praise, reaches to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with victory. CEB 11 Let Mount Zion be glad; let the towns of Judah rejoice because of your acts of justice! NRS 11 Let Mount Zion be glad, let the towns of Judah rejoice because of your judgments. CEB 12 Walk around Zion; go all the way around it; count its towers. NRS 12 Walk about Zion, go all around it, count its towers, CEB 13 Examine its defenses closely; tour its fortifications so that you may tell future generations: NRS 13 consider well its ramparts; go through its citadels, that you may tell the next generation CEB 14 "This is God, our God, forever and always! He is the one who will lead us even to the very end." NRS 14 that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will be our guide forever.
