1 Yoshiyahu kept a Pesach to the LORD in Yerushalayim: and they killed the Pesach on the fourteenth [day] of the first month.
1 And Josiah maketh in Jerusalem a passover to Jehovah, and they slaughter the passover-offering on the fourteenth of the first month,
2 He set the Kohanim in their offices, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the LORD.
2 and he stationeth the priests over their charges, and strengtheneth them for the service of the house of Jehovah,
3 He said to the Levites who taught all Yisra'el, who were holy to the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Shlomo the son of David king of Yisra'el did build; there shall no more be a burden on your shoulders: now serve the LORD your God, and his people Yisra'el.
3 and saith to the Levites -- who are teaching all Israel -- who are sanctified to Jehovah, `Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon son of David king of Israel built; it is not to you a burden on the shoulder. `Now, serve Jehovah your God, and His people Israel,
4 Prepare yourselves after your fathers' houses by your courses, according to the writing of David king of Yisra'el, and according to the writing of Shlomo his son.
4 and prepare, by the house of your fathers, according to your courses, by the writing of David king of Israel, and by the writing of Solomon his son,
5 Stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the fathers' houses of your brothers the children of the people, and [let there be for each] a portion of a fathers' house of the Levites.
5 and stand in the sanctuary, by the divisions of the house of the fathers of your brethren, sons of the people, and the portion of the house of a father of the Levites,
6 Kill the Pesach, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare for your brothers, to do according to the word of the LORD by Moshe.
6 and slaughter the passover-offering and sanctify yourselves, and prepare for your brethren, to do according to the word of Jehovah by the hand of Moses.'
7 Yoshiyahu gave to the children of the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all of them for the Pesach offerings, to all who were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bulls: these were of the king's substance.
7 And Josiah lifteth up to the sons of the people a flock of lambs and young goats, the whole for passover-offerings, for every one who is found, to the number of thirty thousand, and oxen three thousand: these [are] from the substance of the king.
8 His princes gave for a freewill- offering to the people, to the Kohanim, and to the Levites. Hilkiyah and Zekharyah and Yechi'el, the rulers of the house of God, gave to the Kohanim for the Pesach offerings two thousand and six hundred [small cattle], and three hundred oxen.
8 And his heads, for a willing-offering to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites, have lifted up; Hilkiah, and Zechariah, and Jehiel, leaders in the house of God, to the priests have given for passover-offerings two thousand and six hundred, and oxen three hundred;
9 Kananyahu also, and Shemayah and Netan'el, his brothers, and Hashavyah and Ye`i'el and Yozavad, the chiefs of the Levites, gave to the Levites for the Pesach offerings five thousand [small cattle], and five hundred oxen.
9 and Conaniah, and Shemaiah, and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah, and Jeiel, and Jozabad, heads of the Levites, have lifted up to the Levites, for passover-offerings, five thousand, and oxen five hundred.
10 So the service was prepared, and the Kohanim stood in their place, and the Levites by their courses, according to the king's mitzvah.
10 And the service is prepared, and the priests stand on their station, and the Levites on their courses, according to the command of the king,
11 They killed the Pesach, and the Kohanim sprinkled [the blood which they received] of their hand, and the Levites flayed them.
11 and they slaughter the passover-offering, and the priests sprinkle out of their hand, and the Levites are striping;
12 They removed the burnt offerings, that they might give them according to the divisions of the fathers' houses of the children of the people, to offer to the LORD, as it is written in the book of Moshe. So did they with the oxen.
12 and they turn aside the burnt-offering, to put them by the divisions of the house of the fathers of the sons of the people, to bring near to Jehovah, as it is written in the book of Moses -- and so to the oxen.
13 They roasted the Pesach with fire according to the ordinance: and the holy offerings boiled they in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and carried them quickly to all the children of the people.
13 And they cook the passover with fire, according to the ordinance, and the sanctified things they have cooked in pots, and in kettles, and in pans -- for all the sons of the people.
14 Afterward they prepared for themselves, and for the Kohanim, because the Kohanim the sons of Aharon [were busied] in offering the burnt offerings and the fat until night: therefore the Levites prepared for themselves, and for the Kohanim the sons of Aharon.
14 And afterward they have prepared for themselves, and for the priests: for the priests, sons of Aaron, [are] in the offering up of the burnt-offering and of the fat till night; and the Levites have prepared for themselves, and for the priests, sons of Aaron.
15 The singers the sons of Asaf were in their place, according to the mitzvah of David, and Asaf, and Heman, and Yedutun the king's seer; and the porters were at every gate: they didn't need to depart from their service; for their brothers the Levites prepared for them.
15 And the singers, sons of Asaph, [are] on their station, according to the command of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun seer of the king, and the gate keepers [are] at gate and gate; it is not for them to turn aside from off their service, for their brethren the Levites have prepared for them.
16 So all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the Pesach, and to offer burnt-offerings on the altar of the LORD, according to the mitzvah of king Yoshiyahu.
16 And all the service of Jehovah is prepared on that day, to keep the passover, and to cause to ascend burnt-offering upon the altar of Jehovah, according to the command of king Josiah.
17 The children of Yisra'el who were present kept the Pesach at that time, and the feast of matzah seven days.
17 And the sons of Israel who are found make the passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened things, seven days.
18 There was no Pesach like that kept in Yisra'el from the days of Shemu'el the prophet; neither did any of the kings of Yisra'el keep such a Pesach as Yoshiyahu kept, and the Kohanim, and the Levites, and all Yehudah and Yisra'el who were present, and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim.
18 And there hath not been made a passover like it in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet, and none of the kings of Israel made such a passover as Josiah hath made, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who are found, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Yoshiyahu was this Pesach kept.
19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah hath this passover been made.
20 After all this, when Yoshiyahu had prepared the temple, Nekho king of Mitzrayim went up to fight against Karkemish by the Perat: and Yoshiyahu went out against him.
20 After all this, when Josiah hath prepared the house, come up hath Necho king of Egypt, to fight against Carchemish by Phrat, and Josiah goeth forth to meet him;
21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with you, you king of Yehudah? [I come] not against you this day, but against the house with which I have war; and God has commanded me to make haste: forbear you from [meddling with] God, who is with me, that he not destroy you.
21 and he sendeth unto him messengers, saying, `What -- to me and to thee, O king of Judah? not against thee do I come to-day, but unto the house with which I have war, and God said to haste me; cease for thee from God who [is] with me, and He doth not destroy thee.'
22 Nevertheless Yoshiyahu would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and didn't listen to the words of Nekho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
22 And Josiah hath not turned round his face from him, but to fight against him hath disguised himself, and hath not hearkened unto the words of Necho, from the mouth of God, and cometh in to fight in the valley of Megiddo;
23 The archers shot at king Yoshiyahu; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded.
23 and the archers shoot at king Josiah, and the king saith to his servants, `Remove me, for I have become very sick.'
24 So his servants took him out of the chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had, and brought him to Yerushalayim; and he died, and was buried in the tombs of his fathers. All Yehudah and Yerushalayim mourned for Yoshiyahu.
24 And his servants remove him from the chariot, and cause him to ride on the second chariot that he hath, and cause him to go to Jerusalem, and he dieth, and is buried in the graves of his fathers, and all Judah and Jerusalem are mourning for Josiah,
25 Yirmeyahu lamented for Yoshiyahu: and all the singing men and singing women spoke of Yoshiyahu in their lamentations to this day; and they made them an ordinance in Yisra'el: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.
25 and Jeremiah lamenteth for Josiah, and all the singers and the songstresses speak in their lamentations of Josiah unto this day, and set them for a statute on Israel, and lo, they are written beside the lamentations.
26 Now the rest of the acts of Yoshiyahu, and his good deeds, according to that which is written in the law of the LORD,
26 And the rest of the matters of Josiah, and his kind acts, according as it is written in the law of Jehovah,
27 and his acts, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Yisra'el and Yehudah.
27 even his matters, the first and the last, lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
