Psalm 52

CEB 1 Hey, powerful person! Why do you brag about evil? God's faithful love lasts all day long. NRS 1 Why do you boast, O mighty one, of mischief done against the godly? All day long CEB 2 Your tongue devises destruction: it's like a sharpened razor, causing deception. NRS 2 you are plotting destruction. Your tongue is like a sharp razor, you worker of treachery. CEB 3 You love evil more than good; you love lying more than speaking what is right. Selah NRS 3 You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking the truth. (Selah) CEB 4 You love all destructive words; you love the deceiving tongue. NRS 4 You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue. CEB 5 But God will take you down permanently; he will snatch you up, tear you out of your tent, and uproot you from the land of the living! Selah NRS 5 But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. (Selah) CEB 6 The righteous will see and be in awe; they will laugh at those people: NRS 6 The righteous will see, and fear, and will laugh at the evildoer, saying, CEB 7 "Look at them! They didn't make God their refuge. Instead, they trusted in their own great wealth. They sought refuge in it—to their own destruction!" NRS 7 "See the one who would not take refuge in God, but trusted in abundant riches, and sought refuge in wealth!" CEB 8 But I am like a green olive tree in God's house; I trust in God's faithful love forever and always. NRS 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever. CEB 9 I will give thanks to you, God, forever, because you have acted. In the presence of your faithful people, I will hope in your name because it's so good. NRS 9 I will thank you forever, because of what you have done. In the presence of the faithful I will proclaim your name, for it is good.
