My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds;1 my neighbors stay far away.
Those who seek my life set their traps,2 those who would harm me talk of my ruin;3 all day long they plot deception.413
I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear,5 like a mute, who cannot open his mouth;
I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.
I wait6 for you, O LORD; you will answer,7 O Lord my God.
For I said, "Do not let them gloat8 or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."917
For I am about to fall,10 and my pain11 is ever with me.
I confess my iniquity;12 I am troubled by my sin.
Many are those who are my vigorous enemies;13 those who hate me14 without reason15 are numerous.
Those who repay my good with evil16 slander17 me when I pursue what is good.
O LORD, do not forsake me;18 be not far19 from me, O my God.
