To be clear, the Bible never says that the Lord God is Mother God. The Bible declares that the Lord is like the universally admired maternal instincts. The Lord uses similitudes to help us understand His “instinctive” loving, nurturing, and compassionate attitude towards humankind and the Church.

There are certain phrases and words that make their way into the popular American lexicon almost by accident. One of those phrases is, "the Bible Belt." It is a verbal concept that is used repeatedly in the news, in classrooms, and particularly, in dialogue about Christianity and culture. Is the phrase, "the Bible Belt" a geographical location, a mindset, a dream, a fading reality, a badge of honor, or a pejorative comment? The answer is – yes. Yes, the phrase is all of those things. One of the reasons that we want to engage with this phrase is to be quite clear what we think about it as Christians.

"Forgive me father, for I have sinned." Most Protestants are familiar with the Catholic act of confession and penance. But despite the fact that this is largely a Catholic-only practice, is there Biblical backing to it? The answer is complicated, and it helps to look at some ways that Protestants and Catholics agree - and disagree.

 “What happens to my soul when I die?” The question is not an esoteric inquiry into the unknowable. God has revealed to us in his word what happens to the human soul at the moment of death. In order to understand the answer to this question according to the Scriptures, we would do well to employ a systematic theological study of the Christian faith concerning the question of the soul.

Heaven is not dependent upon the Sacraments of Baptism or, for that matter, the Lord’s Supper. But merely stating this leaves out a great deal of necessary discussion. For God commanded that a sign (His sign of distinction, of the entrance into the Family of God) of washing away of sin be instituted and practiced until the end of the world. So, it is not enough to say, “No, you don’t have to be baptized.” We must give attention to this vital matter. Hopefully, we will find not only clarity but conviction as well.

The biblical revelation of the role relationships of men and women, those who are called to the office of pastor, to those who were called to the office of deacon, or elder, or those who serve in a variety of other honorable professions and trades, recognizes the value and worth of every individual.

What does God look like? Perhaps, following the psalmist, we turn to poetry and hymnody to answer. When you know your sins are forgiven, and the God of all Creation is your own Father, God looks like the One you have been desiring all of your life.

There are plenty of variations, not only within Protestant, Orthodox, Roman Catholic communities but also within Bible editions. Indeed, the history of “what’s in” and “what’s out” with the Apocrypha is no small history. The tale of what constitutes the deuterocanonical books of the Holy Bible – and why – is a long, complicated, and often controversial subtext in Biblical history. But, to simplify, we will seek to describe and consider, mainly, those fourteen intertestamental books in the King James Bible (which followed the Geneva Bible of 1560): the " Books called Apocrypha." As the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church pronounced in characteristic British understatement, “ Their position [i.e., the Apocrypha] in Christian usage has been somewhat ambiguous.”

To walk in the Spirit is to walk in new life in Jesus Christ. It is to walk away from the old life of bondage to any idea, person, system, or idea of salvation by religious ritual. As we will see, God’s signs and symbols were never meant to save, only to point to salvation by grace through God’s provision of a Messiah. The larger context for these commands involves a challenge to Christian living amongst believers in Galatia, a Roman Province populated by Gauls.

God chose David to write this Psalm because God wanted to reveal Himself to His people as a shepherd, someone they could relate to. This famous psalm is God’s gift to the weary; God’s blessing to the bereaved, and the Lord’s invitation to come to Him again.

Theology is studying God. Christian theology is knowing God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Theology is “the queen of the sciences.” This was not only the opinion of the great Middle Ages scholar, Thomas Aquinas but was held as truth all the way through the 20th century.

The answer to the question, “what is wisdom” seems, at first hearing, to demand a rather simple answer. One could say, “Wisdom is the appropriate application of knowledge,” and that is so. But upon reviewing wisdom in the Bible, this invaluable virtue is deep, immeasurable, priceless, and rare. It is like saying, “Jesus is the Redeemer.” That is true, yet our Redeemer is infinitely more.
