2 Samuel 3:28-39

28 Cuando David lo supo después, dijo: Yo y mi reino somos inocentes para siempre delante del SEÑOR de la sangre de Abner, hijo de Ner.

29 Caiga su sangre sobre la cabeza de Joab y sobre toda la casa de su padre, y nunca falte en la casa de Joab quien padezca flujo, ni quien sea leproso, ni quien se sostenga con báculo, ni quien muera a espada, ni quien carezca de pan.

30 Así pues, Joab y su hermano Abisai mataron a Abner porque él había dado muerte a Asael, hermano de ellos, en la batalla de Gabaón.

31 Entonces David dijo a Joab y a todo el pueblo que estaba con él: Rasgad vuestros vestidos, y ceñíos de cilicio, y haced duelo delante de Abner. Y el rey David iba detrás del féretro.

32 Sepultaron, pues, a Abner en Hebrón; y el rey alzó su voz y lloró junto al sepulcro de Abner, y lloró también todo el pueblo.

33 Y entonó el rey una elegía por Abner, y dijo: ¿Había de morir Abner como muere un insensato?

34 Tus manos no estaban atadas, ni tus pies puestos en grillos; como el que cae delante de los malvados, has caído. Y todo el pueblo volvió a llorar por él.

35 Entonces todo el pueblo se llegó a David para persuadirlo a que comiera pan mientras aún era de día; pero David juró, diciendo: Así me haga Dios y aun más, si pruebo pan o cosa alguna antes de ponerse el sol.

36 Y todo el pueblo reparó en ello, y les agradó, pues todo lo que el rey hacía agradaba a todo el pueblo.

37 Así todo el pueblo y todo Israel comprendió aquel día que no había sido el deseo del rey de que se diera muerte a Abner, hijo de Ner.

38 Entonces el rey dijo a sus siervos: ¿No sabéis que un príncipe y un gran hombre ha caído hoy en Israel?

39 Hoy soy débil, aunque ungido rey; y estos hombres, hijos de Sarvia, son más duros que yo. Que el SEÑOR pague al malhechor conforme a su maldad.

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 3

This chapter begins with the continuation of the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, 2Sa 3:1; and gives an account of the wives of David, and his sons by them, 2Sa 3:2-5; of a quarrel between Ishbosheth and Abner, 2Sa 3:6-11; and of Abner's proposal to make a league with David; but David would not see his face unless Michal his wife was returned to him, who was accordingly, 2Sa 3:12-16; and of the interest Abner made with the elders of Israel in favour of David, which he reported to him, and promised to make more, 2Sa 3:17-21; but Joab returning from a pursuit, and with great spoil, just as Abner departed, and hearing of it, chided David for letting him go, and privately sent for him back, and treacherously murdered him, 2Sa 3:22-27; from which murder David cleared himself and his kingdom, and for it made dreadful imprecations on Joab and his family, 2Sa 3:28-30; and buried Abner with great lamentation, expressing much concern for his death, and the high opinion he had of him, 2Sa 3:31-39.
