221While they were eating, He took some bread, and after a 2blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is My body."
23
And when He had taken a cup and giventhanks, He gave it to them, and they alldrank from it.
24
And He said to them, "This is My 3blood of the 4covenant, which is poured out for many.
25
"Truly I say to you, I will never*againdrink of the fruit of the vineuntil that daywhen I drink it new in the kingdom of God."
26
5After singing a hymn, they went out to 6the Mount of Olives.
27
7And Jesussaid to them, "You will allfallaway, because it is written, '8I WILL STRIKEDOWN THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP SHALL BE SCATTERED.'
28
"But after I have been raised, 9I will goahead of you to Galilee."
29
But Petersaid to Him, "Even thoughall may fallaway, yet I will not."
30
And Jesussaid to him, "Truly I say to you, that 10thisverynight, before11a roostercrowstwice, you yourself will deny Me threetimes."
31
But Peter kept sayinginsistently, "Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!" And they all were saying the samethingalso.
Jesus in Gethsemane
3212They came to a placenamedGethsemane; and He said to His disciples, "Sithereuntil I have prayed."
33
And He took with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be very13distressed and troubled.
34
And He said to them, "14My soul is deeplygrieved to the point of death; remainhere and keepwatch."
35
And He went a littlebeyond them, and fell to the ground and began to pray that if it were possible, 15the hour might pass Him by.
36
And He was saying, "16Abba! Father! Allthings are possible for You; removethiscup from Me; 17yet not what I will, but what You will."
37
And He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keepwatch for onehour?
38
"18Keep watching and praying that you may not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
39
Again He wentaway and prayed, saying the samewords.
40
And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they did not knowwhat to answer Him.
41
And He came the thirdtime, and said to them, "Are you stillsleeping and resting? It is enough; 19the hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42
"Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!"
Betrayal and Arrest
4320Immediately while He was stillspeaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came up accompanied* by a crowd with swords and clubs, who were from the chiefpriests and the scribes and the elders.
44
Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, "Whomever* I kiss, He is the one; seize Him and lead Him awayunderguard."
45
After coming, Judas immediatelywent to Him, saying, "21Rabbi!" and kissed Him.
51
A youngman was following Him, wearing nothing but a linensheetover his naked body; and they seized him.
52
But he pulledfree of the linensheet and escapednaked.
Jesus before His Accusers
5323They ledJesusaway to the highpriest; and all the chiefpriests and the elders and the scribesgatheredtogether.
54
Peter had followed Him at a distance, 24right into 25the courtyard of the highpriest; and he was sitting with the officers and 26warming himself at the fire.
55
Now the chiefpriests and the whole27Council kept trying to obtaintestimonyagainstJesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any.
56
For many were givingfalsetestimonyagainst Him, but their testimony was not consistent.
57
Somestood up and began to givefalsetestimonyagainst Him, saying,
58
"We heard Him say, '28I will destroythistemplemade with hands, and in threedays I will buildanothermadewithouthands.' "
59
Not even in thisrespect was their testimonyconsistent.
60
The highprieststood up and came forward* and questionedJesus, saying, "Do You not answer? What is it that thesemen are testifyingagainst You?"
61
29But He keptsilent and did not answer. 30Again the highpriest was questioning Him, and saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"
62
And Jesussaid, "I am; and you shall see31THE SON OF MANSITTING AT THE RIGHTHAND OF POWER, and 32COMING WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN."
63
33Tearing his clothes, the highpriestsaid, "Whatfurtherneed do we have of witnesses?
64
"You have heard the 34blasphemy; how does it seem to you?" And they allcondemned Him to be deserving of death.
65
Somebegan to 35spit at Him, and 36to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists, and to say to Him, "37Prophesy!" And the officersreceived Him with slaps in the face.
