Now Sennacherib received a report that Tirhakah, the king of Cush,[a] was marching out to fight against him. So he again sent messengers to Hezekiah with this word:

Soon afterward King Sennacherib received word that King Tirhakah of Ethiopia was leading an army to fight against him. Before leaving to meet the attack, he sent messengers back to Hezekiah in Jerusalem with this message:

Then Sennacherib heard that Tirhakah king of Cush was on his way to fight against him. So he sent another envoy with orders to deliver this message to Hezekiah king of Judah:

Listen! When he hears a certain report, I will make him want to return to his own country, and there I will have him cut down with the sword.’ ”

When the field commander heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish, he withdrew and found the king fighting against Libnah.
