1 Salmo 40
Para el director del coro: salmo de David.
Con paciencia esperé que el Señor
me ayudara,
y él se fijó en mí y oyó mi clamor.

2 Me sacó del foso de desesperación,
del lodo y del fango.
Puso mis pies sobre suelo firme
y a medida que yo caminaba, me estabilizó.

3 Me dio un canto nuevo para entonar,
un himno de alabanza a nuestro Dios.
Muchos verán lo que él hizo y quedarán asombrados;
pondrán su confianza en el Señor
.

4 Ah, qué alegría para los que confían en el Señor
,
los que no confían en los orgullosos
ni en aquellos que rinden culto a ídolos.

5 Oh Señor
mi Dios, has realizado muchas maravillas a nuestro favor.
Son tantos tus planes para nosotros que resulta imposible enumerarlos.
No hay nadie como tú.
Si tratara de mencionar todas tus obras maravillosas,
no terminaría jamás.

6 No te deleitas en las ofrendas ni en los sacrificios.
Ahora que me hiciste escuchar, finalmente comprendo:
tú no exiges ofrendas quemadas ni ofrendas por el pecado.

7 Entonces dije: «Aquí estoy.
Como está escrito acerca de mí en las Escrituras:

8 me complace hacer tu voluntad, Dios mío,
pues tus enseñanzas están escritas en mi corazón».

9 A todo tu pueblo le conté de tu justicia.
No tuve temor de hablar con libertad,
como tú bien lo sabes, oh Señor
.

10 No oculté en mi corazón las buenas noticias acerca de tu justicia;
hablé de tu fidelidad y de tu poder salvador.
A todos en la gran asamblea les conté
de tu fidelidad y tu amor inagotable.

Salmos 40:1-10 Meaning and Commentary

To the chief Musician, a Psalm of David. Jarchi interprets this psalm of the Israelites, and of their deliverance and song at the Red sea. The title of it, in the Syriac version, is, "A psalm of David according to the letter, when Shemaiah brought the names of those who minister in the house of the Lord;" see 1 Chronicles 24:6; according to Kimchi, the subject of this psalm is the same with that of the two preceding; and R. Obadiah thinks it was composed by David, when he was recovered of a leprosy; but though it might be written by David, it was not written concerning himself, or on his own account, but of another. The title of this psalm is somewhat different from others in the order of the words; whereas it is usually put "a psalm of," or "for David"; here it is, "for David, a psalm"; and may be rendered, as Ainsworth observes, "a psalm concerning David"; not literally, but typically understood; not concerning David himself, but concerning his antitype and son, who is called by his name, Ezekiel 37:24; and that it is to be interpreted of him is evident from the application of Psalm 39:6, unto him by the apostle in Hebrews 10:5; and the whole of it is applicable to him; some apply it to Jeremiah in the dungeon, and others to Daniel in the den, as Theodoret observes.
