1 Chronicles 24

BBE

1 The divisions of the descendants of Aharon were as follows: The sons of Aharon: Nadav, Avihu, El'azar and Itamar.
1 Now the divisions into which the sons of Aaron were grouped were these: the sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
2 But Nadav and Avihu died before their father and had no children; therefore El'azar and Itamar functioned as the cohanim.
2 But Nadab and Abihu came to their end before their father, and had no children; so Eleazar and Ithamar did the work of priests.
3 David, together with Tzadok from the descendants of El'azar, and Achimelekh from the descendants of Itamar, arranged them in divisions for service.
3 And David, with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, made distribution of them into their positions for their work.
4 There were more men who were chiefs found among the descendants of El'azar than among the descendants of Itamar; therefore there were sixteen divisions of the descendants of El'azar, headed by clan leaders, and eight divisions of the descendants of Itamar, according to their clans.
4 And there were more chiefs among the sons of Eleazar than among the sons of Ithamar; and this is how they were grouped: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen, all heads of families; and of the sons of Ithamar, heads of families, there were eight.
5 They were assigned [periods of service] by lot, the one group equally with the other, since both the descendants of El'azar and the descendants of Itamar had officers of the sanctuary and officers of God.
5 So they were put into groups, by the Lord's decision, one with another; for there were rulers of the holy place and rulers of the house of God among the sons of Eleazar and the sons of Ithamar.
6 Sh'ma'yah the son of N'tan'el the secretary, one of the L'vi'im, recorded them in the presence of the king, the officers, Tzadok the cohen, Achimelekh the son of Evyatar, and the clan leaders of the cohanim and of the L'vi'im - with two clan divisions taken from El'azar for each one from Itamar.
6 And Shemaiah, the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was a Levite, put down their names in writing, the king being present with the rulers, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech, the son of Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites; one family being taken for Eleazar and then one for Ithamar, and so on.
7 The first lot drawn was for Y'hoyariv, the second for Y'da'yah,
7 Now the first name to come out was that of Jehoiarib; the second Jedaiah,
8 the third for Harim, the fourth for S'orim,
8 The third Harim, the fourth Seorim,
9 the fifth for Malkiyah, the sixth for Miyamin,
9 The fifth Malchijah, the sixth Mijamin,
10 the seventh for Hakotz, the eighth for Aviyah,
10 The seventh Hakkoz, the eighth Abijah,
11 the ninth for Yeshua, the tenth for Sh'khanyahu,
11 The ninth Jeshua, the tenth Shecaniah,
12 the eleventh for Elyashiv, the twelfth for Yakim,
12 The eleventh Eliashib, the twelfth Jakim,
13 the thirteenth for Hupah, the fourteenth for Yeshev'av,
13 The thirteenth Huppah, the fourteenth Jeshebeab,
14 the fifteenth for Bilgah, the sixteenth for Immer,
14 The fifteenth Bilgah, the sixteenth Immer,
15 the seventeenth for Hezir, the eighteenth for HaPitzetz
15 The seventeenth Hezir, the eighteenth Happizzez,
16 the nineteenth for P'tachyah, the twentieth for Yechezk'el,
16 The nineteenth Pethahiah, the twentieth Jehezkel,
17 the twenty-first for Yakhin, the twenty-second for Gamul,
17 The twenty-first Jachin, the twenty-second Gamul,
18 the twenty-third for D'layahu, and the twenty-fourth for Ma'azyahu.
18 The twenty-third Delaiah, the twenty-fourth Maaziah.
19 These are the divisions and the sequence in which they served in the house of ADONAI, in accordance with the rule they were given through Aharon their ancestor, as ADONAI the God of Isra'el had ordered him.
19 So they were put into their different groups, to take their places in the house of the Lord, in agreement with the rules made by Aaron their father, as the Lord, the God of Israel, had given him orders.

31 These likewise cast lots, as had their kinsmen the descendants of Aharon, in the presence of David the king, Tzadok, Achimelekh, and the clan leaders of the cohanim and of the L'vi'im; with the senior and junior clans casting lots equally.
31 Selection was made of these in the same way as of their brothers the sons of Aaron, David the king being present, with Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites; the families of the chief in the same way as those of his younger brother.
